The Lake District has been voted one of the best holiday destinations for dog owners. There are many dog friendly attractions available that happily welcome your dog so you don’t need to worry about having to leave your furry friend at home.

Below are 3 ideas of how you can spend your time when holidaying in this beautiful part of the UK.

1 – Beatrix Potter’s House

Hill Top house and gardens was Beatrix Potter’s farmhouse retreat. It was here when she found the inspiration for her books, bringing Peter Rabbit and Jemima Puddleduck to life. The 17th century cottage is run by the national trust and allows dogs on a lead within the garden areas.

2 – Lowther Castle and Gardens

Lowther Castle and Gardens is one of the Lake Districts top attractions to visit. As well as the 19th century castle to explore, there are dramatic ruins, extensive gardens and ‘the lost castle’ adventure playground. A great day out for all of the family. Dogs are welcome all year round as long as they are kept on a lead.

3 – Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway

Ride the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway as a way of seeing parts of the Lake district not accessible by foot. Found on the southern tip of Lake Windemere this family run business offers a unique steam engine experience for all the family. Dogs are allowed to travel the trains as long as they stay on the floor. Due to the location it’s an ideal palace to visit and go on to do a Windermere Lake Cruise. These are also dog friendly and will happily allow your dogs to join you on the boat.
